"My husband and I rented this property for a month where we combined remote working with some vacation. The house is incredibly spacious and we had 2 other couples visit for part of the month. They each had their own bedroom and full bathroom so everyone felt like they were in their own private hotel suite within the large house. Located in a gated community in a perfect location for walking everywhere, and only a block off of a main road so we had no worries walking home after being out for an evening. We bought passes for a gym 5 minutes away for $4 a visit with decent equipment and attended a few spinning classes as well. When we weren't out touring around we spent a lot of our time on the covered patio off of the kitchen and often at night we would sit on the upper patio to watch the Fuego volcano regularly erupt glowing embers. One of our highlights was having Doña Mayda cook for us during the week. She is an amazing cook and tailored every meal to what we liked, using local fresh produce and plenty of herbs/spices for an abundance of flavor. Hard to say anything bad about this place - Flor was amazing and organized in-home massages, travel agent recommendations, weekend visit to Atitlan and anything else we wanted. Internet was very good and we were able to work without issue including doing several long internet conference calls. A couple of negatives that we just adjusted to were the painfully uncomfortable beds and an ant issue around the kitchen sink with moldy smell coming from the cupboard/drawer there (we just sprayed lots of cleanser and kept dishes cleaned up). The cleaning people were decent, though I would say the house could benefit from a floor to ceiling vacuum rather than just floor sweeping. "The unit is in a gated and very secure area and relatively close to everything. We walked during the day and took a tuk-tuk at night. It was much bigger than we expected and more than we needed for only 3 of us. Flor was a great host in returning our messages promptly and went out of her way to accommodate our request. Much thought went into the 'extras' , coffee, a local cell phone, fresh bread and local Jamaica tea. Cotton robes in all the bathrooms as well as luxury soaps, and shampoos. "Our daughter got married in Guatemala last week. We were happy to find this group of houses together. As our guest list grew so did your needs. We actually ended up renting a 5th house next door and an additional one outside of the complex. The set up was perfect. Having a common courtyard that connected the homes with a beautiful pool and hot tub was great for sitting out in the morning for breakfast and catching up after a day of exploring. The wedding took place on the 4 day of our 5 day stay. Because of the way the housing was arranged everybody knew each other by this time, which made their visit and our wedding all the more meaningful. This would not have been possible had we rented rooms in a hotel. As for the accommodations themselves, each home was beautifully decorated and well maintained. The cleaning staff was delightful and very attentive. The guards were friendly and our guest who had not been to Guatemala felt safe in the neighborhood. The communication with Flor was easy through email and all questions were answered promptly. The location is in a quite area of town close to the market and easily walkable to the main square and restaurants. Antigua is a beautiful city. I would highly recommend these homes, especially if you have a large group for any occasion. "My family and I (2 adults; 2 boys aged 8 and 5) had a fantastic 4 nights at Flor’s place. The location was perfect for us - near enough to walk to all of the main attractions, yet whisper quiet and in a secure compound just outside of the main tourist area. The house is large, well maintained, and very safe. Flor was responsive to any questions we had and was incredibly accommodating with arranging a spot for us to leave our bags after an early arrival while the cleaning team was still at work. She also arranged a babysitter for us on a couple of evenings (Marcela - highly recommended) who was excellent with our children and had some basic English, which really helped them settle quickly, too! You also have access to the pool facilities in the house right next door, but having all that space and uninterrupted volcano views from this house made it much more special. "The villas are beautiful, the location is close to shopping and near some coffee shops. To hail a tuc tuc you just have to walk a block to the main street or you can always order an uber if it's too late to walk. It is gated and very safe. The guards are professional and personable, but very strict with the rules. Always carry your driver's license in case the guard changes while you're out about town because you'll have to present ID before walking into the community. "Our stay in Casa 14 The house is beautiful, condominium safe and relatively close to parque central. We used UBER. The house needs some improvements. Showers heads need to replaced. They asked us to take our shoes off and as soon as we did our socks/feet were filthy. We had to mop floors on arrival. The kitchen counters were dirty also. The house is not safe for small children as the steps are dangerous. No gates. I slipped on the last steps and thank God nothing serious happened. The last steps should have a handrail on left going down. Remember safety standards vary depending on country. Flor is available if needed. Overall, we would stay at one of their properties on the pool area probably and ask that the house be cleaned on day of arrival. We have family in Guatemala and cleaning standards are high. "This house, though spacious and beautiful, did not quite live up to the expectations of $200+/night stay in Guatemala. Our first impression was not great as we arrived to the gated community and were given a notice by the security guard stating the property owners have not been paying the community/HOA fees. Practically speaking this changed our stay little - just had to open and close the gates ourselves, but from the perspective of someone who likes Airbnb but also believes in responsible use and tourism, this did not sit well. It’s an expensive rental in Antigua and the owners have not kept up with the condo payments which includes security. Also, I think this effects their trash service as the last morning of the 2 night stay 2 women dropped off some yard clipping trash and left it in our courtyard because it wasn’t picked up by trash service outside. As far as the house, location is great and it really is beautiful. However, Floors were very dirty and couches had clearly not been cleaned in quite some time. When trying to find which of the couches was the sofa bed we noted crumbs and food under couch cushions. Additionally, the sofa bed which was listed as being in the common space, was actually in the master bedroom and was unable to be moved. This was unfortunate and should be updated in the listing and specified that you should let them know ahead of time if it should be moved elsewhere in advance of your stay. Overall, still a great experience. Great volcano views and beautiful spacious house. "This home is so wonderful! Great location. We stayed in a home in this community many years ago and it hasn't changed. The guards are very nice and you feel very safe here. The home is wonderfully clean. The soap, shampoo was more than enough for a weeks stay. The garden is just beautiful. The views are incredible and I would venture to think they are better than most hotel rooms in Antigua since you can see all 3 volcanoes from the maters porch. Just incredible. I have never had an experience with such a nice property manager as Flor. She is the best I have encountered and caters to your every need. Housekeeping was wonderful. We are family with 4 kids and housekeeping allowed us to have a real vacation by keeping up with the dishes, towels laundered and bathrooms cleaned. We used the chef one night and had tamales and quesadillas for the kids and it was delicious. There was so much food we had left overs another night. The pool area is very nice and we enjoyed it every day. The hot tub gets wonderfully hot! We had great experiences using uber to get around Antigua and there was always one nearby the house. "We rented this house 5 or 6 years. This was my second stay and it is still as beautiful as I remembered it. The owner and all of the staff are friendly and very helpful. Our friends who traveled with us loved the house too. The kitchen is fully equipped and spacious. My spouses mother who lives in Guatemala cooked us an incredible meal on our last night there. There is also a large dining and living area with two fireplaces. The covered patio and beautiful garden were especially cozy while waiting for a brief shower to pass. There are views of the volcanos from the master bedroom terrace and another bedroom on the second floor. There were fresh cut flowers in the bedrooms and dining room. There is a beautiful hammock and the gardens were lush and full of flowers. We had lots of hot water for our group of 5. Be aware that the Queen bedroom is on the second story with a beautiful view from the bed. The kitchen was well-equipped and we cooked several meals there. You will need to bring in all your groceries from Pana. There were no bugs in the house and it was very quiet at night. The walk to Santa Cruz was an easy 15 minute walk, however it did involve boardwalks over the water and it did have several flight of stairs. Flashlights are necessary to do it at night. We were able to easily find the private dock and were able to arrange for a private boat that would pick us up at the house at a prearranged time. We paid 150Q each way for 5 people... Maybe more expensive than a public boat, but we loved not having to flag down a boat. We also reserved a private boat to take us to San Antonio Atitlan and Pana. Please be aware that you can't get a boat back to the house after 5-7pm. Las Iguana Perrida in Santa Cruz had an amazing buffet style BBQ on Saturday night, but you must make reservations before 3pm for dinner. We also walked about 20 minutes to Isle Verde for breakfast one day. This house is perfect for someone who wants to get away from the sometimes hectic environment of Guatemala. "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Santa Catarina and Casa Santa Cruz during our recent visit to Antigua, Guatemala. We had two families travelling together during our stay and between us, we rented three of the four houses that surround the pool and hot tub in the courtyard. The two houses that I rented were spacious, had nice furnishings and were very convenient to the meetings that we were attending at the nearby Cesar Branas complex (only two blocks away). The entire complex where the houses are located is inside a gated community. The decor in each house is rustic, but complements the overall look and feel of the town very well. Casa Santa Catarina is a four bedroom house and Casa Santa Cruz is a three bedroom house. Each house has one bedroom downstairs and either two or three bedrooms upstairs. In addition to the master bedroom downstairs, there is a spacious living/dining area and a nice sized kitchen. There are no closets in any of the bedrooms, just a small wardrobe. The owner of the houses and the property manager were both very helpful and quick to answer any and all questions that we had about the property or the nearby area. Booking was very simple as was making the deposit and final payment. The kitchen is more than functional to do any necessary cooking while staying at the house. Each house has a full 5 gallon bottle of purified water. Once the initial bottle has been used, you can have it refilled for a nominal fee, which was very convenient. The houses don't have air conditioning, but it never became too uncomfortable in either house during the day. You can ask to have the skylights opened so that the air will circulate better, if needed. At night the temperature drops to a very comfortable level for sleeping. There is a grocery store (La Bodegona) about 4 blocks away that has just about anything you would need to purchase. There are also lots of very good restaurants within easy walking distance, 4-6 blocks from the location of the houses. If you have never been to Antigua before, do be aware that all the roads are cobblestone. This makes for uneven walking and slows you down just a bit compared to paved roads. Maid service is included in the cost of the houses and the ladies were very friendly and helpful. "We always stay at VRBOs. This was the most beautiful home we have ever stayed in. The house keeping service was exceptional. One of our party became ill and the House Keeper made her a special local tea and she was better almost immediately. Just a very small example of the wonderfu experience we had while staying in Casa La Hemita. The kitchen was well equipt, the beds were very comfortable, and bathrooms were always clean, the views of the volcanos from the Master bed room patio were spectacular. Paola was wonderful to work with and was very helpful, answering all our questions about the area. "This is a great house, quiet, safe, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and in a perfect location to walk to town and to the market. We only needed a taxi once and the gatekeeper happily called one for us. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and it's great to have things like internet and fireplaces in several rooms to make cozy evening fires. Every morning we sat on the upstairs terrace to read, gazing out at the volcano and lovely rooftops with our coffee. There is plenty of room to stretch out for everybody. The house has books and tv. "What an absolutely fantastic home! Immediately upon entering my breath was taken away by the beauty of the stone and wood and the magnificent artwork throughout. Each room was gorgeous and large. Even with the beautiful art, etc, it is a wonderfully comfortable and homey spot. My partner and I were traveling with a family of four and we all had great privacy when needed but enjoyed the large living room and dining room/kitchen when we were together. The bathrooms are wonderful. And the views from the upstairs bedrooms are stunning. We have to say everything was perfect-from the volcano views to the commodious rooms to the high speed internet access and cable TV. "I spent a week in this beautiful villa with my adult son, daughter and my daughter's friend. The pictures do not begin to do it justice: it is a truly lovely home with local art on the walls and in special niches, good bed linens, a fully-equipped kitchen, high speed Internet, beautiful views from the balconies...! The layout was perfect for our group--my son had a bedroom and bath downstairs, I had a room and bath at one end of the upstairs hallway, and the girls each had a bedroom and shared a bath at the other end. The gated facility made us feel very secure (although there was nothing about Antigua that made me feel insecure--day or night). The housekeeper is a charming woman and Gustavo tended to our every need and responded quickly to any little emergency--a tv remote that didn't work, etc... The location is a long block to the main commercial street, and the artisans' market, and about 6 blocks from Central Park --Parque Central. Antiqua is a must-see destination. In my mind, it ranks with Prague as a beautiful and romantic destination. The citizens are most gracious and will speak to you in Spanish if you are able, but most also speak enough English to get by if your Spanish fails you. I have rented many vrbo properties around the world and this one certainly is among the best! I recommend it without hesitation or reservation. One caution about visiting Antigua if you require wheelchair accessibility: the roads and sidewalks are so bumpy that they can be difficult even for someone who has no physical challenges. Everyone should bring sturdy walking shoes. Flip flops present a hazard. Our favorite restaurants include: Frida's, La Fonda de la Calle Real, Cafe Contessa, Rainbow Cafe for breakfast/lunch(co-located with the travel agency that we used for all of bookings, and a bookstore), and Cafe Dona Luisa (sit upstairs near the window for a volcano view). Also Panza Verde for its ambience and good, though not local, food. Finally: bring mosquito repellent. There are not a lot of them, but the ones that live here are nasty little devils. "What a wonderful blessing to have found this home on the internet! We found ourselves in a bind without housing for the first half of our trip to Antigua and found the VRBO site. This home was available for just the right time we needed. I was a little skeptical about renting from the internet, but it turned out to be such a wonderful house! We actually tried to cancel our other other housing and stay at Philippa's house for our whole visit to Antigua! The pictures on the internet do not begin to show the character and charm this home posesses, and the safety and security of being in a gated community are wonderful. Philippa mentioned we could have meals cooked by her housekeeper, Clara, and two of the days of our stay we did have her help out. Shopping with her in the local market was so amazing! It really made us feel part of the community and she is a fabulous cook! Our family of four and another couple visited together and the layout of the home was perfect for us. The upstairs three bedrooms and two baths worked great for our family and then the other couple enjoyed the bedroom and bath on the first floor. It gave us both the privacy we needed in the evenings, but the pleasure of visiting together in the rest of the house during the daytime.
