 "We had such a fabulous trip here, and a large part of what made it so special was this lovely place, Tranquility. I had searched around long distance for a long time, having never been here before, and it was clear when we arrived, that we'd ended up just where we would be most happy. We loved the balcony. The endless wonderful show of the birds was a marvel to behold. It was great sitting there for breakfast, in the afternoon -- anytime! We appreciated the spaciousness and comfort of the condo and its decor. The bed was unusually comfortable. It was a nice complement to all the nature to have all these creature comforts -- including the computer I am typing on now! Listening to Pandora was fun-- and I was impressed with how quickly we got a response when I couldn't figure it out ( hardly an emergency). The abundant helpful information provided here made the trip much easier for a first-time visitor. The location of the condo is ideal -- it is great having both the back bayou area and also the area in front on open water. I like that it is set back and private yet also such a short walk to town. One comment about the stairs: I had read about them and know one condo has an elevator. AT first , this gave us pause -- we are not young, but in our late fifties. I wanted to say here that they were surprisingly easy: not narrow and steep, but easy to climb -- about 39 steps ( coincidence of the name?) and with two landings on the way up. It was never a problem either for us, or bringing luggage up. All the information in the book was helpful. We especially enjoyed Kona Joe's, sitting with a beer watching the pelicans land in Black Dog Bar and Tidewater Tours and driving up to Manatee Springs ( you will hear that it's too cold to swim , but if you are from the North, it really isn't -- or at least I will carry nice memories of swimming in it. Some additional places: We enjoyed the River Walk, 1/2 mile past the North entrance to the Nature Drive in the Refuge. We liked this better than the Nature Drive. It's a lovely short walk down to the Suwanee River and on a short boardwalk. La Chua Trail in Paynes Prairie ( different entrance from Main entrance) was fabulous. We did this our second day here and were really glad we had gone, even if we hadn't relished getting back in the car. A different type of territory --- wide open prairie in parts, and lots of wildlife. Birds galore, and wild horses and alligators. Not a place I would recommend if you have very young children given the proximity of the creatures -- unless they are so young you are wearing them. Scruffy, the osprey, visits everyday along with Blue Heron, etc. We brought our bicycles & have enjoyed riding everywhere. The couple I'm with have been out with their Stand Up Paddle Board & Kayak. "Great week, starting with the Arts Festival on Sunday, ending with sunrise kayaking...Sightings: Bald eagle, Oystercatcher, and all the amazing wading birds. At Manatee Springs we did not see manatee (have already moved into river) but did swim and see Gulf Sturgeon (huge!) and water snakes (leave them alone, they leave you alone, simple!). Tom at Cedar Key Kayaks was very helpful with advice and gave us a deal since we had bad weather two days--what a great guy. "Sorry to take so long to write. Hectic days since we got home. The condo was all we hoped for and more. Incredible how well stocked and supplied it is. I didn't do any cooking but sure could have, but you know that. We were all very happy with our stay at Tranquility. The balcony got a lot of use and we really enjoyed the views and birding. Three roseate spoonbills entertained us every AM at low tide, and having ibis pick around in the grass is a first. Exceptional bed in the main - most comfortable I can remember. But toooo big. We sleep on a double at home and kings are always a surprise. I think the high point of our stay was the wonderful dinner we had at the Island Hotel Dining Room. Scott and I also ate at the Island Room on the water, and it was good, but the old hotel was really a very special experience. Tony's clam chowder was as billed - very tasty. And the salads we got there were nice and very large! We did takeout as the cafe ambiance wasn't as good as our balcony. We enjoyed both local museums. Wish you weren't so far away! "We have rented vacation rentals by owner for years and found no better place than Tranquility! Seldom does a place exceed our expectations, but Tranquility certainly did. "Just got back home from a wonderful week in Cedar Key. Tranquility was PERFECT ! The most incredibly relaxing sights and smells of the coast ! Spent a week in Cedar Key and loved every single day. Would definitely recommend Tony's and The Island Hotel as evening restaurants. Raw oysters for lunch at the Raw Bar on Dock Street and Coconuts - both were excellent. Also try the crab omelet at the Depot Cafe for breakfast - out of this world. Excellent day fishing (caught enough trout and redfish for dinner for four which we prepared in the well appointed kitchen) This is the third time we've taken Captain Doug's tour (Tidewater Tours) and each time it's informative and different ! "This was a surprise vacation for JO. We are birders and nature lovers from NC. ... So I stuck my finger on the map of FL and hit CK. A moments' research revealed nature birds, off the "plastic-fantastic" FL path, a charming web page, and an instant Ah Ha! What a perfect vacation!! CK stands out... from the coast, from the rat-race culture, from time, from worry. We typically go to Bald Head Island where there is a similar atmosphere, where there are no cars and lots of birds. We saw more birds in our first day from the porch of Tranquility than we had in 20 years of birding at BHI. ...We are having a hard time leaving this morning. "John & Cindy, we love your place! We can tell that you have been here often and worked hard to make this place really comfortable. We have stayed at other condo's before, and we can tell the difference!! Who wants to stay at a hotel after this experience? Except for a turtle crossing the grassy area and a great blue heron and a bunch of pelican and seagulls, we haven't had the chance to really look at the birds yet. But we sit at the balcony a lot, unfortunately usually it is at night, when it is pitch dark, then we just listen to the sounds and watch the stars and the planes. The weather was just perfect for being in December. We ate at the Frog's landing the first night, and decided that eating in, with your complete kitchen is the way to go! And we will take home some mullet dips for our traditional bagels and lox christmas breakfast. "Tried to add comment in your guest book and apparently failed - but did want you to know how much we enjoyed your place on Cedar Key October 14-17 '07. We enjoyed the deck in all happy hours and after dinner - sunrises, sunsets, birds galore, occasional passing fishing boats, tides going up and down -- all boasting a view so much more interesting than one straight out into the Gulf. The condo is well-furnished, maybe the best we have ever seen. Baked for breakfast and did up a mean fresh grouper from Robinson's up on #24 - your suggestion. We also had a great anniversary dinner at the Island Room across the street. Surprised there were no more people just a few days before the Seafood Festival. Had a 2-hour jaunt with Capt. Doug that was interesting, especially just to get out in the water. Strolled & biked through downtown and drove out to the airport and the Museum. Thought the St Clair house to be terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days at your place and were thankful, despite the steps, we were on the third floor where the views were so incredible. "Aaaaaah, Leaving tomorrow, Did not know how much we needed this place. Loved the birds from the balcony, especially during the easterly winds at the first of the week which kept the tides really low, but fishing and boating not so good. "Tranquility is the place to stay if you're in Cedar Key! This is a well-equipped condo with a great location overlooking the marsh (more appealing to us than a gulf or ocean view). The first day we went into town (an easy walk) and had a drink on the deck at Frog's. Later we returned to the condo and decided that our balcony was the best place for late afternoon happy hour. One day we rented a golf cart and explored the island and discovered that there are a lot of pretty views in Cedar Key. The other thing we liked about Tranquility was that the website was so complete and detailed (floorplan, amenities, pictures, etc.) that we were confident about what we would encounter when we arrived and we weren't disappointed. "Golden green with long shadows, a rose and deep blue sunset commencing out over the balcony railing right this minute - 5:30 p.m., Dec. 29 - just about through with 2005. A pleasant, laid-back holiday reunion of three sisters and respective spouses and five kids ranging in age from 10 to 28. Our stay at Tranquility included renting a long pontoon boat from Island Hoppers and a leisurely cruise to North Island for beachcombing, plus a cross-island walk to the cemetary on old Cedar Key - Atsena Otie. Today we drove back roads to Manatee Springs for a swim in its temperate waters. Nice. We dined at Island Hotel for Christmas dinner, but dined best at "home," meaning surf-and-cluck potluck for 11 from 9D and 9F joined together. Walked the beach before sunrise and sunset, hit the hot tub, saw the sights from an electric golf cart, fantasized about living here until we found out how much real estate costs. "After several years of difficult times, we needed to mellow out. This place has been such a terrific way to do just that. We saw about 40 different birds that we could positively identify. "We have thoroughly enjoyed our week here at Tranquility. It really is a piece of heaven. We rented a golf cart and toured the key. I recommend this to everyone as it really does give you a chance to slow down and see things up close. The sunrises and sunsets were absolutely gorgeous! Saw pelicans, red-winged black birds, osprey with fish in their talons and egreats! We even saw horseshoe crabs down by the dock. We fished, but not much luck except some very large stingrays and sharks. We ventured over to Atsena Otie Key and walked to the cemetary, very interesting. We had drinks at the Captains Table, "toadally awesome" shrimp pie at Frogs, which we highly recommend and a nice last night dinner at the oldest building on the Key, the Island Hotel Dining Room. The palm salad at Annes was the right lunch one "blamy" afternoon also. We hope to all come back and thanks for letting us enjoy Tranquility! The clams are great also! "As I site here on the balcony of Tranquility, it is hard to put to words all of the emotions that this wonderful place has filled my heart with. My dreams have come ture here. I have married the love of my life, and we had the wedding irght here in the living room in front of the twinkling tree. The cermony was beautiful - surrounded by the family and friend who are the dearest to me. During the ceremony a great white heron perched himself on the railing of the balcony and stayed through the whole event, watching, and did not leave till we all came outside. It was beautiful!! The sunrises, sunsets, birds, and the breeses. A perfect place for a perfect time in our lives. Thank you!!! "We could not have imagined a better place to get away from it all and celebrate our 20th anniversary! I have never been a "bird watcher", but this week has made me wish I knew more. The books in the condo did help identify many of the beatufiaul creatures we saw. We brought our kayahks and our bicylces with us and put them both to good use. Leed rode several miles every day. On Mon. - Wed. - Fri. we paddled and really enjoyed the trips. The only thing that might have been an improvement would have been a full moon! We met lots of friendly people and ate lots of great seafood. Long walks around town, and shopped in all the artsy places. There's just so much more I want to do and see that Ia m sure we will be back. Thanks Cindy for all your help in planning the trip! "We had a wonderful experience in 9F and hope to return another time. The birds were awesome, we even saw a bald eagle! The fishing was great too. We caught about 35 all together. We enjoyed the town being so close, we never got in our car! The girls rented a golf cart twice. They loved that. This place is very peaceful and the sofas are very comfey. "Dear Cindy: Just a short note to say that your condo is aptly named "Tranquility." Mary Fern and I could not remember a more relaxing 4 days. I've attached a photo from the balcony that will certainly look familiar to you. We could have set on the balcony for all 4 days and enjoyed the view of all the activities and countless birds. We followed your instructions and enjoyed that brunch next door, and enjoyed a soft shell crab Benedict while watching the dolphins leap by. We also had a delicious lunch at T&S, and would highly recommend it to wine drinkers. They offer good mid-range wines at Publix prices. We also liked the Robinsons very much and loved the fresh red snappers, shrimp and clams. I think we had 10 dozen clams. We wook a short drive to the Suwanee wildlife refuge and really liked the river trail. On the way back we checked out the Chiefland golf course, and can't wait to get back for a round. In short, we had a terrific and incredibly relaxing time at Tranquility. It was very clean and extremely comfortable. Hope we can get back before long. The accessibility from Gainesville was very easy. Thanks for doing such a good job of preparing us for the visit. "What a beautiful, restufl "tranquil" place. Everything was absolutely perfect. Condo, island and weather! My kids enjoyed the golf cart, pool and shops. So did we. It was a perfect ending to a previous week vacation with grandparents and Orlando (Disney soccer tournament). We rented a boat on Friday, walked through Atsena Otie Key - very interesting - especially the graveyard and history. We left and went or started to go around to the left of the island and saw 8 dolphins following a school of fish. We headed out to them and they swam along our boat entertaining us for over an hour. We took over 30 pictures. I never saw my kids enjoy nature so much! This was a special place for us, a lot of family quality time. Thank you for sharing your AMAZING vacation home with us. "This is really a beautiful place and you can tell that a lot of planning went into putting this home together. You have supplied everything to make one's stay so comfortable whether working or vacationing. "We thoroughly enjoyed your very warm and comfrotable "getaway". It truly lives up to its name "tranquility". One of our most enjoyable pasttimes was sitting on the balcony observing the natural beaturify of this unique area. We saw fox, 2 Great Horned Owls in the nearby trees next to the left side of the balcony, a flock of woodstorks feeding in the bay and Dolphins came through the bay every evening. Our particular favorite was the roost of Roseate Spoonbills.... "This was our first visit to Cedar Key and it was great! We are used to going to the panhandle beaches (Pananma City) and this was a beautiful change. Watching teh difference between high and low tide was incredible! We also enjoyed watching the many different birds. We think we saw a bald ealge in a nest at the far edge of the marsh, about 1 oclock looking out the balcony. Thanks for the use of Tranquility. "Our family enjoyed a very relaxing 4 day weekend. What a beautiful place! We tried to do everything and still fit in afternoon naps. We've taste tested most of the eating spots, including trying the Palm Salad. We rented a golf cart to dart about town and found that a fun and cool way to travel. My daughter and her friends rented a canoe to visit the neighring island, saw porpoises and sunbathed. We've visited museums and done a sand-dollaring trip.
